Report calls on Boris Johnson to get a grip on regulation and develop a long term strategy that will enable the taxi trade to flourish.
Unite is asking taxi drivers to support the report at the London Assembly Transport Committee at 10am on Wednesday 25th February at City Hall.
Unite Cab Section calls on the Mayor to implement the recommendations of the London Assembly Transport Committee which heavily criticises Boris for his complete lack of regulation and enforcement of the taxi and private hire regulations.
His soft touch approach has led to greater danger to the travelling public and increased hardship for taxi drivers.
It is time that this lame duck Mayor started to act responsibly before he leaves to become an MP.
He needs to immediately act on the Assembly’s 15 recommendations including:
- By May 2015, the Mayor should publish a long term strategy for the development of both taxi and private hire industries.
- By May 2015, the Mayor and TfL should set out plans to ensure that all Underground stations located on the 24-hour Tube network have a taxi rank in place.
- By May 2015, The Mayor and TfL should provide the Committee with a definitive assessment of the resources currently devoted to enforcement.
- By March 2015, The Mayor and TfL should conduct a full review of the policy on ‘satellite offices’’.
